Original U.S. Theatrical Movie Poster – Robert De Niro vs. Sylvester Stallone
A terrific original theatrical one-sheet poster for the 2013 boxing comedy Grudge Match, pairing two of cinema’s most recognizable boxing stars: Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone.
The poster was part of Warner Bros.’ theatrical campaign and uses a deliberately retro boxing-fight-poster design, presenting the matchup prominently as:
“DE NIRO -VS- STALLONE”
The huge distressed gold GRUDGE MATCH title dominates the design, while Stallone’s Henry “Razor” Sharp and De Niro’s Billy “The Kid” McDonnen square off below inside the ring. Contemporary coverage of the campaign specifically noted that Warner Bros. used vintage boxing-poster styling to play off Stallone’s Rocky and De Niro’s Raging Bull legacies.
Also featured along the ringside are Kevin Hart, Kim Basinger, Jon Bernthal and Alan Arkin.
Directed by Peter Segal, Grudge Match tells the story of two aging Pittsburgh boxing rivals who return to the ring decades after their unfinished rivalry began. The film opened theatrically on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013.
This is a particularly fun crossover collectible because the artwork intentionally capitalizes on De Niro’s and Stallone’s legendary boxing-film histories, making it appealing beyond collectors of the movie itself.
